Background

A patio that breathes with the room.

On A1A, Sandbar — owned and operated by Opal Hotels — is a long-standing Delray Beach hospitality landmark. Thatched palapas, weathered cypress, blue chairs, sand underfoot. The daylight does its own work.

Before the upgrade, the outdoor system ran on orange-red bulbs to meet Florida’s turtle-friendly coastal lighting codes — one look, all year long. Management wanted a canopy capable of meeting those codes while creating lighting effects aligned with the vibe of each evening.

The new turnkey installation pairs the MaxiRGBW Large Globe festoon canopy with the LT-1BOX field controller and Lumentender Cloud service. Full RGBW pixel control across the entire outdoor footprint — main patio, entrance archway, upper balcony, A1A-facing perimeter — recalled from any web-connected device in minutes.

Design

One continuous RGBW field, engineered for the coast.

The canopy is built as a single continuous RGBW field across the main patio and the upper balcony, with auxiliary runs wrapping the palms and the entrance archway. Two-core MaxiLINK cable carries 48 VDC power and DMX data in one run — no parallel control wiring, no additional points of failure on a coastal install.

The system was specified for marine environments from day one — not adapted to it later. IP68 and IK07-rated, vibration-tested to ANSI C136.31, operating range −40 °C to +50 °C / −40 to +122 °F. Fifty yards from the Atlantic, every component has to live there year-round.

Mounting is simplified by the single-cable topology: fewer connectors, fewer feed points, reduced infrastructure across the entire perimeter. Scenes are stored in the controller and recalled by the venue without re-rigging — sunset, dinner, live music, after-hours.

Turtle-friendly flexibility. Alongside full RGBW color, the system supports precise control of white-light color temperature. The canopy shifts to a turtle-friendly spectrum during the Florida sea turtle nesting season — compliant with local coastal wildlife requirements, with no loss of guest experience on nights outside the regulated window.

What the MaxiRGBW Large Globe contributes here is range. The same physical canopy plays as a fully saturated green for branded events, a cool blue for after-hours, a deep red for holiday and statement nights, and a warm white for casual dinner — through scene-library recall, on the same installed hardware.

The result is a single venue that supports seasonal events, branded activations, live music programming and standard dining service without physical reconfiguration. The installation extends evening atmosphere, strengthens nighttime visual presence and increases visibility from A1A.
