Background

A garden indoors, lit to tell a story.

At Melbourne’s Garden State Hotel, the architects and interior designers used architectural lighting to craft the mood of its many spaces while accentuating the interior architecture. For a project of this scale, the lighting had to set the tone — and tell a story. Light Project worked alongside architects Techne to imagine, plan and construct the lighting that brings its many drinking and dining spaces to life.

From the entrance onward, the lights carry the same materiality and design intent throughout: from small, intimate settings to vast pools of light, accenting joinery and furniture while washing the common areas in a soft indirect glow.

Overhead, MaxiLED Small Globe luminaires illuminate the internal roof structure, threading a canopy of light through the venue’s trees and timber frame. A key benefit of the Small Globe here: exceptionally long runs from a single low-voltage power source. Low maintenance and a 5-year warranty as standard complete the case for the product.
