A new London mews, lit without a single pole.

Loxton Walk is a new pedestrian retail mews just off Baker Street in Marylebone — a paved walk lined with shopfronts, planters and café terraces, threaded between the surrounding buildings. Now commissioned and open to the public, the space is crowned by a dynamic canopy of MaxiLED festoon lighting that turns the entire walk into a single, slowly moving composition of colour.

The defining move of the installation is what is not there. There are no lighting columns and no poles anywhere in the walk. Every catenary wire is anchored directly into the building fabric on either side of the mews, so the canopy floats free above a completely clear ground plane — nothing interrupts the paving, the planting or the sightline to the arched entrance at the far end.

Across those catenaries run 378 MaxiGlobe RGBW globes with Batcap, every one individually addressable. Open rows of festoon span the length of the walk, gathering into a dense, closely-pitched grid of colour at the covered threshold — a ceiling of pixels over the entrance, behaving like a low-resolution video ceiling.

Show control lives in the cloud: full-field colour washes that travel down the walk, rainbow gradients that paint the paving, cool white star-field scenes and calm single-colour holds for everyday trading. Colourways and programmes can be scheduled, updated and re-themed for seasons and events remotely — without a ladder ever touching the site.

Supported off the buildings — not off the street.

The entire canopy is supported off the buildings themselves — every catenary is fixed directly to the wall. For retail and mixed-use environments — malls, mews, laneways, courtyards — this removes the single biggest obstacle to overhead lighting: no streetscape clutter, no foundations, and no catenary poles to specify, buy or maintain. Along the open length of the walk the festoon reads as individual points of colour against the sky; toward the covered threshold the pitch tightens into a close-set grid at near-matrix density. Loxton Walk demonstrates the full turnkey model — specified by MaxiLED, installed by Field and Lawn, controlled entirely from the cloud.
