An atrium filled with floating points of colour.
123 Albion Street is a hub of activity in Leeds city centre. Fresh from a £5m refurbishment, the commercial building now offers Grade A offices, balconies and terraces, feature glazing and a newly remodelled entrance atrium — and it was this atrium the lighting brief set out to transform.
Having already worked with owners Merrion on the Merrion Centre, MaxiLED Lighting specified RGBW Globes for the space. The track system in white was selected to blend into the ceiling, while the Globe itself was made bespoke for this project: a clear crystal cable with a silver ferrule, so each luminaire reads as a point of light suspended in mid-air.
The low-voltage track wiring made installation simple — with the added advantage that each globe drop could be repositioned on site to meet the client’s design intent exactly. A total of seven MaxiLINKs drive the installation, all within a single universe under Pharos control.
Access was the final challenge: the only way into the atrium was through two double glass doors, so specific mobile elevating work platforms were brought in for the install. A tight squeeze — and a wonderfully modern illuminated atrium at the end of it.
