Background

First impressions, at different depths of light.

Foyer lights are the first welcome a building gives its guests — they set the tone before a word is spoken. For the London home of creative agency Havas at Pancras Square, MaxiLED Lighting worked alongside the architect to design a lighting solution as considered as the space itself.

The answer was to develop the MaxiLED Globe on a track-powered pendant system: individually controllable RGBW globe drops at varying heights, creating different depths of light that amplify the scale of the double-height foyer — an effect further multiplied by the reflective material chosen for the upper interior surface.

The engineering underneath is a MaxiLED development with a patent-pending easy-installation system for low-power DMX projects: control runs over any two-wire 1.5 or 2.5 mm² cable, wired exactly like a static install. Here it is uniquely deployed on 3-phase track with one phase removed — the DMX rides on the back of the power through the track, telling each individual light point what to do.

All drivers and the Pharos control sit up to 75 metres away from the lighting itself. Simple, clean — and forgiving for any installer who has never touched a DMX system before.
